VicSRC's 2024 Congress is finally here, with general release tickets on sale August 5th.

Congress is VicSRC's flagship student-led experience bringing together students from across Victoria to unpack ideas and solve issues in the education system. Students’ voices at Congress shape our organisation’s advocacy focus into the future as VicSRC and students work together to make the Victorian education system relevant, inclusive, and student-centric.

Congress 2024 will be held on Friday, 13th of September at Wurun Senior Campus from 9 AM to 4 PM. Up to three students from each school have the opportunity to represent their peers at the main event run by Victoria's peak student body.

Congress 2024 will be held on Friday, 13th of September at Wurun Senior Campus from 9 AM to 4 PM.

"Congress is one of the best opportunities available to Victorian students to have their voices heard and to help shape the education system they want to see," says VicSRC's Policy and Advocacy Manager, William Naughton-Gravette.

"Students know what they need to thrive at school. Congress puts students in the driver's seat when it comes to sharing that expertise and shaping improvements to Victoria's education system".

At Congress, students join the VicSRC Student Executive Advisory Committee to create student-focused solutions to barriers within the education system.

"Congress is an explosion of student voice," says Billy, our 2023-24 Student Executive Advisory Committee Co-Chair, and previous Congress attendee. "You get to meet like-minded people from across Victoria and bring the congress vibes every step of the way".

Last year, students from Years 7-12 were among those represented at Congress, and participants worked together to find four key advocacy priorities for VicSRC to focus on for the coming years.

These advocacy priority areas were mental health and wellbeing, inclusive and accessible education, rethinking how we define success and greater investments in schools, teachers, and students. You can read our full report here.

"Congress is a time for students to come together and send a clear message to schools and the government alike - that students must be at the core of building a stronger, more inclusive education system for everyone." William continues.

Students must be at the core of building a stronger, more inclusive education system for everyone.

For the first time, VicSRC is introducing a professional development opportunity to run alongside the 2024 Congress, allowing teachers to come along on the day. Developed by the team behind the internationally recognised Teach the Teacher program, VicSRC’s expert staff will show how teachers can best support themselves, their students and their school to become champions of student voice, ensuring cultural change each step of the way.
